Community Comes Through For Children In Need

Thanks to the Lincoln community, this holiday weekend as many cherish time with family and friends, the children and youth who are staying with CEDARS will feel the spirit of being cherished as well. These young people are staying in CEDARS Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living apartments, and residential homes because they have no other safe place to stay.

The generosity of the Lincoln business community and individuals, including a major effort by local radio station Froggy 98.1, have ensured the children and youth at CEDARS will have a gift this holiday season.

“This community is just tremendous. We know that the support of the community makes a big difference in the work that we are able to do. Lincoln has supported CEDARS for nearly 65 years, and they didn’t let us down this year. Thanks to so many generous donations, each child in our care will receive a gift this holiday. And that’s a big deal,” said Jim Blue, CEDARS President and CEO.

Because many of the children at CEDARS come with just the clothing on their backs, basic items are always needed. Donations collected from CEDARS holiday drive will also help provide necessities for them, such as blankets, toiletries, and clothing.

“In addition to being able to provide these kids with something special to open on Christmas, these donations send such a strong, positive message to the kids. Oftentimes, their lives are filled with abandonment and disappointment, but these gifts show them that someone really cares for them. It’s very powerful,” said Blue.
