Youth Specialist II, CEDARS Life Skills Center (Lincoln, NE)

CEDARS Life Skills Center (LSC) is available to youth in need of a more structured environment during the day or evening. LSC emphasizes restorative justice practices to encourage healthier behaviors while preventing further juvenile crime. LSC seeks to prevent crime by teaching youth how to become more productive citizens. The most effective way to do this is to develop a relationship with the youth and teach them about the impact of their actions on the community and themselves and to provide education and skill development in efforts to equip them with the knowledge and resources they need to live healthy and productive lives. The Youth Specialist II (YS II) will assist youth program participants in successful completion of the programming goals identified. The YS II will facilitate service approaches to meet the needs of youth participants while working to improve peer relationships, build strong decision making skills, assist youth in obtaining and maintaining employment and improve the youth's overall cognitive behavior. The YS II will be responsible for case management, documentation, group facilitation, as well as creating and maintaining positive relationships with youth, families and community partners. A bachelor's degree in human services or closely related field and one year of experience working with children, youth and families are preferred. A combination of relevant experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement if approved by the President and CEO. Knowledge of the juvenile justice system and human service organizations is preferred. The YS II shall have a genuine interest and concern for youth and families and be committed to providing the highest quality of care possible. The YS II shall also have a) experience in group facilitation, b) strong, effective organizational and communication skills, c) an ability to work collaboratively with other professionals in the agency and community, d) be sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the clients and families CEDARS serves and e) have a valid Nebraska driver's license and a good driving record.
