Hunter's Story

Meet Hunter, a 12-year-old boy currently in CEDARS care.

Hunter came to us when it was no longer safe for him to stay at home. Having endured years of abuse, he faced immense challenges as he tried to adjust to a new environment. Though he found safety with his father, past trauma led to behaviors that made things difficult at home. Recognizing that Hunter needed help to heal, his father reached out to CEDARS for support.

Since arriving, Hunter has made incredible progress. With the support of our caring staff and regular therapy sessions, he’s been able to address the pain of his past while improving his behavior. For the first time, Hunter feels truly secure, surrounded by people who ca   re and understand him.

Staff often share stories of Hunter’s warm, infectious personality. He has a love for card games and a great sense of humor. One of the most memorable moments in his time with us was when he expressed a desire to learn how to read an analog clock. At first, Hunter relied on a digital alarm clock to keep track of time, but when he told the staff he wanted to learn, they eagerly taught him.

Now, Hunter can read an analog clock with ease. His pride in this accomplishment was clear when staff surprised him with his very own watch, so he could tell time wherever he went. The reaction on his face was priceless as he wrapped the band around his wrist for the first time.

At CEDARS, we help children find safety and stability, and also create lasting memories and skills that will last a lifetime.
