CEDARS Receives Grants to Enhance Child and Family Health

CEDARS recently received $25,000 from Children’s Hospital in Omaha Nebraska for a childhood obesity prevention grant that will allow us to offer yoga classes to all of the children enrolled in our Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) twice a week. Through this funding, we are also able to partner with another local nonprofit, Community Crops, to further develop our Nature Explore Classroom by providing enhanced gardening opportunities for our children. With these opportunities, our children and families will have more access to fresh produce, as well as enhanced opportunities to develop and build their social/emotional skills through the practice of yoga and mindfulness.

CEDARS Northbridge Early Childhood Center serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years, and is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). There are 10 standards that represent 400 criteria that the program follows that include: Relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of child progress, health, staff competencies, preparation, and support, families, community relationships, physical environment, leadership and management. NAEYC Accreditation represents the mark of quality in early childhood education; less than 10% of all early childhood education centers in the country receive NAEYC Accreditation.
