Jay's Story

Teenage boy with brown hair and a blue shirt looking into the camera.

Sixteen-year-old Jay was struggling to find the stability he needed. When he came to CEDARS Emergency Shelter, he had already been in several other placements and was worried about living in a new environment all over again.

At our Emergency Shelter, Jay found more than just a place to sleep and meals to eat.

He found a place full of people who believed in him. And as the staff shared their confidence in him, Jay began to believe in himself again, too. He reclaimed his passion for physical activities and worked hard to get ahead in school. He even let his leadership skills shine through by helping the other kids in our care adjust to their new living situation.

Six months later, Jay is now home with his family. He volunteers for a local youth track and field team, continues to do exceptionally well in his classes, and even visits us at CEDARS to thank staff and show his support for the kids currently living in our Emergency Shelter.
