Street Outreach & CEDARS Youth Opportunity Center

CEDARS Street Outreach Services (SOS) provides street-based assistance to runaway, homeless and at-risk youth in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Street Outreach staff work with youth between the ages of 13-21.

Without pressure or judgment, Street Outreach staff members support homeless youth as they work to leave the streets for safe shelter, secure permanent living arrangements or to reunite with their families.

Targeting areas where youth congregate, SOS offers crisis intervention, access to CEDARS 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation and personal hygiene items. By utilizing CEDARS wraparound services, Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, a continuum of other care models and other community resources, Street Outreach Services can meet the variety of needs youth may have.

At the newly opened Youth Opportunity Center, runaway, homeless and at-risk youth can “drop-in” to receive a hot meal, do laundry, follow hygiene routines, complete job and housing applications, receive education support, and relax.

In addition, outreach workers facilitate free group sessions to address teen issues, safety, life skills, healthy recreation, diversity, coping and problem resolution.

Street Outreach Services strives to educate youth on making good choices and helps set positive development goals that build competence, confidence, compassion and character. As a result, these youth have the opportunity to improve relationships and resolve the situations that have led them to homelessness.
